Catalogue preparation, reading-room research and evidence-led reporting using Welsh national collections that cannot be understood fully through a simple online search.
The National Library is a central repository for Welsh family and historical research. Its resources include manuscripts and archives, probate and nonconformist material, census resources, tithe maps, newspapers, journals, photographs, maps and printed works.
Many catalogues and digitised items can be searched remotely. Other questions require a registered reader to order and examine material in Aberystwyth, compare items or follow references that only become clear inside the documents.

Tithe maps, estate records, local publications and visual collections can connect people with particular farms, streets and landscapes.
Examine defined archival or printed material for academic, institutional, media or personal historical projects.
The Library uses its Main Catalogue and Archives and Manuscripts catalogue for ordering. Preliminary research helps identify exact references, access conditions and realistic priorities before material is requested.

The National Library of Wales provides its own free enquiry service and offers copying subject to conservation, copyright and payment requirements. An independent researcher is most useful when a question needs a dedicated visit, extensive comparison, transcription or integration into a larger historical account.
This proposed service is provided independently by Nick James and is not operated, endorsed or commissioned by the National Library of Wales. All work remains subject to its registration, access, photography and reproduction rules.
The intended service will connect catalogue preparation, reading-room work and a clear account of the resulting evidence.
